The following is posted for

The following is posted for Mr. Hewson DownUnda, for his stated need of intellectual stimulation.

Assume the proton nucleus of a hydrogen atom were the size of a golf ball. The electron would be orbiting about 1.4 km away.

Cheers!

Yup, that's about as close as I ever got when I played golf !

I then discovered that simply walking that distance was just as healthy, but with less stress. :-)

Cheers, Mike.

( edit ) Apocryphal, probably true, certainly believable :

A well known golf course. A chap is noted to duff a bunker shot, the ball rolls back into the sand. The guy suddenly boils up and goes ballistic - swearing, stomping, waving his arms about, uses part of his golfing equipment to assault other parts of the equipment. Much noise. Much damage. Certainly no etiquette. Finally picks it all up and throws it into a nearby water hazard including the buggy and the bag. Strides angrily off in the direction of the car park. About 15 minutes later he returns. Onlookers who witnessed the prior rage figure he's settled down and come to his senses. He wades into the water, fishes about for several minutes to find the bag with profanities abounding. He retrieves his car keys from it and then stalks back off toward the car park : ne'er the likes to be seen ever again.
