I use the same Driver/BOINC/Windows/"Workgroup:work" version like the working 9800GTX machine. I tried to detach and reattach too. Im confused. Plz help ^^
On my GTX 550Ti Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo) v1.28 is running 20 minutes faster than with v1.25, so that is very good work from the programmer(s)!
Temperature goes from 71°C to 75-76°C but that is still within the safe range of the graphics board.

Which driver version do you use?
I use the latest beta and see a decrease of performance. I can remember that there were problems with some versions of drivers; i want to downgrade but do not know which version fits best.

After looking at several results (BRP4 ATI/CUDA app.) I notice specially
on mid-range GPUs, quite some time is used for CheckPointing,
On my GTX480+X9650CPU{@3.6GHz), 100 seconds but on slower GPU(/CPUs)
up to 800 seconds.
Some GPUs hardly ever checkpoint.
I assume the WEB-Site preferences, BOINC local also, have a checkpoint setting
but does the setting have any effect.
And the checkpoint isn't actually used or needed since the following computation
starts from scratch?

On this
host, which does 2 instances_per_device = GPU GTX480.
An impressive gain and really noticeble and higher throughput or RAC!
Shorter RunTime and lower CPU-time! Driver 275.33.
