Why is there a delay of more than 6 hours?

After uploading the result file according to my computers log the results page for my account has not been updated yet.

That's the current server report for the specific result ID of the last uploaded file H1_0214.9__0215.2_0.1_T07_Run2_0_0:

Server state:
in Progress
Outcome:
Unknown

whereas the client log is telling:
2005-04-25 02:04:31*** [Einstein@Home] Finished upload of H1_0214.9__0215.2_0.1_T07_Run2_0_0

***Pls. deduct 2:00h for getting UTC.

I am wondering why the file registration for the individual computers result ID is not reported directly after reception.

Why is there a delay of more than 6 hours?

The upload is a two step process. First the data is uploaded and the it is reported to the scheduler. Look at the state of the workunit in the work tab. If the workunit is still there, it isn't reported and the state is 'ready to report#.

What is you Boinc client version? With 4.19 you can use -return_results_immediately in the command line, so that the scheduler is cantacted immediately after the upload.

I am quite aware of the 2 stage process. However if the scheduler uses more than 6 hours to get the delivered file processed, that's more time than my computer is using in calculating the workunit.

It's the 4.25 (v2) menu-bar version for OS X. IMHO this version is working like a clockwork - not one failure so far. However it has produced 1,722.77 pending credits for one machine registered on 04-07-2005 so far.
If those cobblestones would be real, I would be rich (according to my standards;-)

Actually the scheduler

Actually the scheduler doesn't know of the finished and uploaded Result until it is reported to him. The upload is made to the upload server, not the scheduler. It doesn't matter that the upload server is currently running on the same machine as the scheduler. They might be split in the future and we may even distribute upload servers around the world if the number of users continues to increase, as we already did with the download servers.

And I have allways wondered

Message 10906 in response to message 10905

And I have allways wondered WHY Boinc doesn't report when uploading finished
results?
I can understand that if some projects upload intermediant results,
but why not when it is finished?
Hmm.. now that I think of it,is it to protect she scheduler from to many
connections?
What's the reason?

(I can live with this, but I just like to know why?) :)

BTW,Why am I asking this here..? this is not Boinc Home..
gah.. got tired fingers now.I leave it here. ;)

You're right, and there is no 'Boinc Forum' at all.

But for your question:
The process of getting it all to Berkeley is a two step operation.
Look here and here @Pauls ;)

Thanks Saenger.
I actually tried Paul's FAQ occasionally but I have newer
seen that second linkpage you gave me. (Maybe I'm just too bad finding stuff :P )

And the answer for my question was ease of load from scheduler. ;)

This was answered earlier so I won't address it...

If you want to set up your system(s) so that the result is reported immediately after it is uploaded (still a two-step process though), you need to use the BOINC client directly (for 4.25+) instead of the Boinc Manager. You can then add a parm telling it to report immediately after upload:

C:/Windows/BOINC/boinc.exe -redirectio -return_results_immediately

There are drawbacks to this, but it does get your result reported right away. The main drawback is that your system connects to the project twice, right in a row which doubles communication with the project (very bad if we're in the middle of a communications overload after extended downtime). If you're not on broadband this is probably not the way to go.

You can start Boinc Manager or use Boincview after BOINC.EXE is up and running. You can even shutdown Boinc Manager or Boincview and BOINC.EXE will continue to run.

That's a nice way to do it... i've always preferred to run the CLI separately and only startup the GUI (BoincView or Boinc Manager) when i want to check on things. Since i have XP, i run the Boinc CLI (4.25) as a service and half the time i never even know it's running. No icons in the taskbar, etc.

Didn't realize you could force the CLI to report results immediately though. This is probably a worst case scenario, for folks who always come close to the deadline.

Happy Crunching :)

Did you try search?

It may not be that you are bad at finding stuff, maybe I am bad at making it visible ...

I wonder if I should put a link to the Glossary on the first page. Any thoughts?

Man.. Now I feel stupid... :p
I think i never pressed that ?-icon in front of "Boinc Frequently asked qustion (FAQ)" -line... I think I always clicked on that "Freq..."-link.(Which took me to explanation of the word FAQ.)
but I have clicked on those other icon under that ?-icon... *sigh* :P
Ones I understood that, voilá,found the info myself.
