A question for you experienced computer whizes. I have a desktop and a laptop with WXP. I decided to give in to the hype about the need for Service Pack 2 to patch flaws and downloaded it into the laptop. Immediately I notice that E@H WUs which used to take maybe 10 hours are now hitting 30! SETI used to be 2 1/2 hours and now is approaching 7. What happened? Hardly any other programs are going here, just email right now and BOINC. Is this a recognized problem with Microsoft software 'upgrades'?. I don't see this as an improvement!

SP2 installs several new "features". If you already have firewall software disable the MS firewall. I had totally disabled the the scheduled tasks and found that SP2 re-enbable it. I suggest you run the task manager and look for processes that are stealing cycles. Strange. I run SP2 on my Windows Boxes and experienced no noticiable slowdowns with it at all, and definitely not an impact like you saw.
