It has been raining off and on with Thunder since yesterday. We even had a Tornado run past us Southwest of my town.

Shades of Tornado season.

It's been hot here at the beach, and yes the mid to upper 80's is HOT for this time of year for us. It will cool off this weekend as we get your rain Tom but I hope the tornado's all hit corn fields etc on their way to me as we don't need any of them either.

They are talking about ALOT of named Hurricanes this year though and yes some could come on close to me, but as long as they stay below a category 3 we will stay in the house as the house is built to withstand cat 3 winds. I am 31 feet above sea level with 1.5 miles of coast line, home, shopping centers, more homes, some roads and the inter-coastal waterway as well between me and the ocean so ocean water isn't coming to get me!! We also have great drainage here with some large ponds around me that do a great job of moving the water onto the next pond as it works it's way to the ocean. And since I in in a neighborhood of brand new homes, none more than 10 years old, the builder clear cut all the trees that could take out the side of a home etc. The builder just paid the fine which is pretty low in NC.

Hi Mikey!  Do I understand

Hi Mikey!  Do I understand this correctly, that "The builder just paid the fine which is pretty low in NC" which was for NOT clearing out the "all the trees that could take out the side of a home, etc" ?

I have not heard of that before, but it makes sense!

The builder did what's called 'clear cut' meaning he took out all bushes, trees, grass, whatever and then leveled the whole area to build homes, the State Law says he has to leave trees etc that outside th area of where he has permission to build a home, with a reasonable 25 feet for heavy equipment to move around. Since NC is very builder friendly the fine does not change and is $10K whether you clear cut 1 acre or 100 acres. 99% of builders just pay the fine and move on, some though leave the original stuff and the end result is a much more mature looking neighborhood when he's done.

My builder even tried to clear cut the NC designated swamp areas near me but the neighbors got the Feds involved and their fines weren't worth it so he had to drop some roads and homes to leave the areas natural. The neighbors also got the Feds involved when they discovered a pair of nesting bald eagles and the builder was going to take out their tree as well. Again the fine wasn't worth it, nor was working outside while the eagles were 'nesting' so he worked very hard over the winter to get the 6 homes around the tree completed on the outside but not on the inside. The different contractors also had to have their trucks certified to be no louder than whatever the limit is, none failed.

Kudos to your neighbors!  I love eagles, if you haven't figured that out by my avatar.

Almost all the neighbors love them too, including me!! Yesterday I had the sliding doors open to the back porch and an eagle came and snatched a fish right out of the water, I saw him flying away not the actual catch.

~ 30 yrs ago, after my divorce, when I was still working as a mechanic, I took a 2 week vacation in mid winter to the Mississippi River to search for (and found) eagles.  It was very relaxing and they were there in droves searching the open waters around the dams amid the ice for fish.  They are mostly solitary birds of prey unless they have a mate and nesting.  But in the winter they tend to congregate in groups.  Awesome photo event.
