Hey! I got one of them!

... But it's only got 640k Bytes of RAM :-(

:-p

Cheers,

ps: Good on including the feature detection. Does that work equally well for BOTH Intel AND AMD and any others?

Yup, this should work on any CPU thet BOINC throws the Intel/Linux app at.

The cluster that remains

The cluster that remains dedicated to BOINC since there is nothing for it to do is now at 19 systems. I'm talkin' "it hurts to hold too long" hot!

You'd be amazed how hot a plug will get with 19 systems running off it, that IBM dual core was probably sucking down so much juice...

Quantity /does/ have a quality all its' own.

After having had it shut down

After having had it shut down for the past several months, I've decided to fire up my trusty Dell Poweredge server. It's equipped with a pair of blazingly fast 333 MHz P-II's and is loaded with Xubuntu Linux.

Yeah, if that doesn't help increase my ranking, I don't know what will.

Yes! It's a cool cruncher unit! Who will be wondered by QX9650?

You have enough systems to make a cluster setup worthwhile. Have you considered doing what I did?

Actually, I can't. I also use these machines for my business, and need to leave them set up as independent machines.

Define "independent". What

Define "independent". What kind of functionality do you need? I like the setup if only for the insane ease of use it offers.

I just need them as stand-alone machines, in order to proof the Linux training courses that I develop.

Hello all! I just happened

Hello all!
I just happened upon this thread as I was packing up an old Dell Dimension PII 450 to send back to Dell for recycling.
I felt inspired to install Xubuntu and SETI with the MMX optimized app for one last fling... first WU estimated time to completion - 67 hours!! Woo-hoo!!
I may look for a PIII 550 to upgrade per earlier posts- there is a certain appeal to running these old machines.
Does Einstein run more or less efficiently than SETI on such a pc? (Assuming optimized apps are used).
Thanks
