Outage Type: UNSCHEDULED OUTAGE (RESOLVED)
Date Submitted: Sunday April 17, 2016
Outage Start/End Time: 1015-1140
Groups Impacted: Campus Datacenter Customers
Equipment: Firewalls
Description: UPDATED 12:00PM — Affected firewall services have been restored and all datacenter services should now be available as of 11:40AM PDT. IST staff will continue to monitor and work to determine the root cause.
Intermittent connectivity issues are affecting multiple services hosted in the campus datacenter.
IST staff is working quickly to identify the source of the outage and to restore services as quickly as possible.
The main reason Seti moved it's kit to the Colo was because of better air conditioning and UPS arrangements than the SSL had, plus staff on site all day to hot swap disks if need be. That is useful because the SSL is up on the hill overlooking the Bay, the Colo is down in the town. But since than there have been a number of Berkeley wide internet outages as well as their own kit falling over now and again. With the latter they can often sort it by remote re-booting, going off-air is out of their control. But it is cheaper to have that then their own dedicated link up the hill that they were paying for.
Up time is something like in excess of 99% so as irritating as these outages can be, it is not a case for a major "drains up" exercise.
