I recently hit 200 million here at E@H. I got very excited by that milestone. More so than most would I suspect. Because of age and health issues I have few events in my life that are achievement based other than getting up in the middle of the night and successfully navigating to the bathroom and return to bed. That it happened here had extra meaning.

I love this project. The science of neutron stars, pulsars is fascinating and mind bending to me. Gravitational waves are something I have always found intriguing and until recently no idea were such an important discovery that would open up so much more research. And E@H has both! These are aspects of science that I am endlessly interested in.

But probably most important is probably the people here and the attitudes. The science here seems to be very important to the participants. While my 200 million was an exciting milestone for me I have been setting up some Raspberry Pi crunchers so when I have to shut down my heat throwing, electricity gobbling GPUs as the weather heats up I can still participate in this science and community. I feel sadness as I watch my daily numbers decline and my three Raspberry Pi together do only about 1000 RAC. Numbers can be fun but being able to participate at any level is what is important to me and it would seem many others here as well. I do not feel I am the exception at all.

A second aspect I love about the people here are the principles involved. The participation in the forums, the patience and time spent helping participants fix problems and the time spent supporting so many types of hardware. It also seems one of the best managed projects to participate in.

Thank you for this project, your time and effort spent managing it and your patience and humor in dealing with us. Love the jokes. :-)

I am sure the cynical would think I am silly to feel so grateful but I do feel very grateful to have E@H in my life and that I am able to participate. At any level. I get a lot out of it.

Cheers!

P.S.

If you would like to understand gravitaional waves and pulsars/neutron stars a little better I have found these videos on Youtube to be very helpful.

Your post captures my sentiments also as well as that of many others here I am sure. In a world where there is so much negativity your post is uplifting. It belongs with the "kids" at SpaceX. I see such passion in their exuberance. It is contagious. It and posts like this are very much needed. And NO, you are not silly.

Silly? I think not. It's

Silly? I think not. It's refreshing to actually see someone expressing how they feel on a positive note.

You be silly all you want. I'll stand right beside you. :-)

Having members like you here

Having members like you here is part of why I have been here this long.

Hot weather is here but I just add more fans since my GPU's never get to take a break.

I'm trying not to hijack the thread, but this sprang to mind. Election night

ok, back to the thread. I still can't believe we are playing a part in analysing the first data from LIGO. It's bit like Neil Armstrong posting me a bit of moon rock in 1970 and saying "Can you do the analysis?"

Outreach is the buzzword and E@H does make a strong two way connection, i feel i can contribute and learn, sometimes i even get to help someone new, which is a good feeling. The foundation to support this is solid project infrastructure and applications, and a very patient helpful culture. E@H has it's own attractive E-force.

I love John Cleese. Brilliant as he is funny. If you haven't check out some of his late interviews and talks. Love Monty Python too.

I have pictures of Parkes and Arecibo on the wall next to my desk. Can't find one of LIGO I like. But I sometimes look at the radio telescopes and am amazed my PCs are analyzing data from them. I never think about finding anything. I am so enjoying the hunt. I realize that finding something is the point but if we hunt long and hard we will find what there is to find.

Friend I wish I could too. I have tried for years but I have no good way to vent the heat out of my space and the air conditioner fights too hard to do it's job without the GPUs. With the GPUs it is horrible.

I'll do what I can as I can. I will do more this summer than I did last so it isn't all bad.

Cheers!
