June 5, I downloaded BOINC 4.43 for Mac (Recommended version, advanced GUI), using Safari. I also created an account under my (real) name Jean Jeener. I ran the BOINC installer as explained in the "ReadMe" file that comes with the installer: everything seemed OK. Next, I ran BOINC, gave my Account key, and in a few minutes, my Mac PowerBook started doing work for Einstein@Home.
However, I was unable to get the screen saver with the celestrial map to operate, also, at first, I never saw the celestrial map.
Then, I repaired the permissions on my hard disk, and the celestrial map became visible ! After playing with the nice display for a while, the application froze and I had to restart the computer. This scenario repeated itself on a few occasions. "Fortunately", I have not seen the celestrial map any more during the last week, and work for Einstein@Home proceeds as it should.
Can you give me some hints to get a more normal behavior of the program. Thank you.

Mac(PowerBook G4): problems with "celestial sphere"

The MacOS Apps currently being the official ones on einstein@home have been built with a version of boinc code that is somewhat obsolete now, especially with the 4.43 advanced client. It has only been tested that the computation of the old Apps with the new client works, but the graphics will only be limited and may not work at all now (e.g. there is no way to close the graphics window again in the old Apps once you opened it...). We are currently working on a new set of Apps which should come out this month, the new Mac App will work properly with the 4.43 advanced client, too. Sorry, there's nothing you can do right now, the work is up to us.

Thank you, Bernd, for a clear answer. I am looking forward for the new Mac App.

Jean,
you may want to look here. This currently requires a bit non-Mac-like fiddling around, but the App should work with the new BOINC Manager and the screensaver module.
