Hi guys!

My name is Rafael Valente, I live in Brazil and joined the team here last night after read some posts on Seti@Home about our friend Crunch3r that joined here too... So, here I am...

I have a question abort the optimized client.

I have 3 group of computers that I manage and please someone tell me who is the the best optimized version for each group ok ? ( Sorry for my English )

Group 1 :

Dell Optiplex 260GX ( Pentium 4 2.8GHz - SSE3 / Without HT / 1MB L2 Cache )

Dell Latitude D600 ( Pentium M 1.6 GHZ / SSE2 / Without HT / 2MB L2 Cache )

Group 2 :

Dell PowerEdge 830 ( Pentium 4 3.0GHz / SSE3 / HT Enable / 2MB L2 Cache )

Dell PowerEdge 830 ( Pentium 4 3.0GHz / SSE3 / HT Enable / 2MB L2 Cache )

Group 3 :

Dell Optiplex 620MT ( Pentium D 3.2GHz 930 / SSE3 / Without HT / 4MB L2 Cache )

----------------------------------------------------

Now, I seek the crunch time for the Group 2 computers and see they are chunching 2 WU in 3 Hours, it that normal?

My group 3 PC is crunching 2 WU in 43 Minutes.

Thanks in Advance,

Best Regards,

Rafael Valente

I'm new to the project, some questions...

U41.04 for all your computers except Dell Latitude D600, S41.07
You may want to search the board for the thread about HT’s effect on crunch times on this project,(cant find the thread right now, but someone else might be helpful to post a direct link to it.)

Then you're really interested in a subject, there is no way to avoid it. You have to read the Manual.

Try this post as well as this

Try this post as well as this one. Be sure to read the other posts in the threads to give you a better understanding of the effects of HT.

There are 10^11 stars in the galaxy. That used to be a huge number. But it's only a hundred billion. It's less than the national deficit! We used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them economical numbers. - Richard Feynman

Thanks, I already downloaded the file.

I didn't see any improovements on the time, I'm taking more than 3 hours for 2 WU on my HT machines Prescott 2MB 3.0GHz on Dell PowerEdge 830.

I´ll try the S39L and post the results.

Best Regards!

Since i'm new here too, i got another question.

When i look at the status page i see 18.8 days left of the improved S4 search.
Could someone tell me what, will happen after that ?
I've read some about the S5 run but i'm not sure what to make of this...

Could someone plase explain that to me what and how things will happen after those 18 days ?

Thanks.

If I'm understanding posts

If I'm understanding posts from Bruce correctly, we'll seemlessly transition into S5 work units (possibly with new official science apps??). I'm not sure if 18 days is an eta for issuing the last S4 workunit, or for when they're expecting to get the majority of the s4 units crunched and returned.

There's more information here.

The earlier guestimate for completion around June 14-15 has been skewed because of the recent two-day outage.

Seti Classic Final Total: 11446 WU.

Correct. We'll also have new science apps.

The time shown on the server status page (18 days) indicates when we will make the LAST workunit of the S4 data analysis run. At that time, we'll begin distributing S5 data and some new applications. The S4 workunits in progress will continue to crunch for a few weeks after we finish making them.

At that time would we have to discontinue using Akosf's optimized apps to get the new S5 work?
