Dual-core P4s now seem to be on the market, so I scanned the "top computers" list looking for one. Didn't see any. Isn't anyone here using this cpu? How are they working out on E@H?

Here's my Pentium D840, a dual core 3.2 ghz. (no HT) Now it has been doing quite a few things other then crunching recently so hasn't been 100% on Einstein, but it still manages a pretty fair amount of crunching. It will do 2 Einstein units in about 7.2 hours or 1 every 3.6 hours. 6.6 work units per day.

Wondering if anyone is using one of the dual Core AMD 64's yet.

Yea, I have a dual socket

Yea, I have a dual socket Tyan mobo K8WE with a pair of Opteron 275's. (2.2Ghz) for a total of 4 cpu's. Each cpu does a Einstein wu in 5.5 hrs give or take a few minutes.

That's some nice production

That's some nice production James. Very sweet but probably a bit pricier then my P D840. Still very nice.

Yea, I'm pretty happy with

Yea, I'm pretty happy with it. I'm using the XP64 Bit OS. Yea, it cost about the national debt. I also have 8 gigs of memory and 320gigs of HD running RAID 1. I figured as long as I had the charge card out, why not go first class. With any luck it should not be obsolete for at least 4 months :)

I think it might even be good for 6 mo. I just upgraded the bios on one of my AMD 64-3200's. 939 pin. It can now support a dual core AMD 64 x2. Might try to get a 4200 or 4400 once the price drops a little more. Other AMD 64-3200 is an older mobo that won't support the dual core. Might eventually upgrade it to a 3700 though.

Pentim D 840 is still a good box for the money though.

Was at the computer shoppe

Was at the computer shoppe the other day, drooling over the fancy new motherboards. Saw one that supported four (that's right - 4!!) of the new AMD 64s. Would have taken my entire pension for the next year to buy and populate that monster!!

If I've lived this long - I gotta be that old!

Just for grins, please give us a shock on how much you’d estimate the price to be??

Thanks

Installed Pentium D 820

Installed Pentium D 820 (2.8GHz) yesterday. This replece the old-good Northwood 3.0GHz.
So far, new system is going well - tested on SETI, LHC and Einstein. From now on...CPDN will be crunched.

Today, I ordered another same CPU + I955 + 1 GB DDR2 + 300GB SATA etc.
Looks like best choice for BOINC considering the price.

I might be able to buy AMD X2 3800+ when it's available. The price sounds reasonable...let's hope my MB will be able to deal with this CPU after BIOS upgrade.
