Can someone please explain what is meant by the report i got in my results, having uploaded a WU this morning i noticed the message......
"Completed, validation inconclusive"
I`m not worried that i might not get any credit for the work unit, just simply, i want to know why the result was inconclusive????
Thanks .
Tom

i assume thats the w/u your refering too, i see a few of those. possible drive problem?
as to the question, i believe its more to the fact that your wingman reported Validate error for this wu http://einsteinathome.org/workunit/80116179 so it needs to be sent to a 3rd person and sent in for validation. if your result matches the 3rd persons it will validate.

Thanks Paul,
i am unaware of any drive problems, but the fact you state my wingman also had a problem with this WU leads me to think theres no problem with my computer, at least i hope so, not really up on computers that much!
thanks again,
Tom.

You are quite correct. There is no apparent problem with your computer.
The "validation inconclusive" message simply means that two (or more) completed and returned results for a particular workunit were examined by the validator and no validation could be achieved because there were not two results that agreed with each other. So the attempted validation (and not your result) was inconclusive. The validator was able to determine that the result from your wingman was in error so it is likely that your result will eventually prove to be OK. This cannot be fully determined until an extra copy of the task is processed and returned by a third computer. You will notice that there is an "unsent" result ready to send out once a suitable host comes along and is selected by the scheduler. It shouldn't take too long for the extra task to be sent out.

Gary.

Sometimes, though, the validation process can throw up some very strange results. God knows what happened with this one:

This is not a problem of validation. We had four charges of (ABP AC) workunits where the pre-processing produced data files the application couldn't handle in terms of producing a valid output. We had to cancel these workunits.
