OK, I give up.

This system keeps crashing WUs and I can't figure out what's wrong with it.

I've tried a rebuild of XP, reinstall of BOINC, and nothing seems to be working. Any ideas/suggestions???

Malaria Control seems to work fine (most of the time), at least when work is available.

Help! New/updated system keeps crashing WUs

Have you done memtest86 and prime95 runs to make sure it's not a hardware fault?

The error messages look for

The error messages look for me like pointing to a corrupted data file.

There's also been a download error of the graphics exe. Have there also been any with the data files?

Does "S5GCESSE2" sound right? Perhaps there's a more basic application available (just as a test).

Gundolf

I've copied all the .exe files from another (working) E@H install into the E@H project folders. I currently have two WUs running...apparently without crashing...and my daily quota is used up. I'll see if these complete sucessfully...if so, I will probably get more WUs once they're returned.

[edit]
Reviewing my message log, I found the following:

Quote:

19-Jun-2010 20:28:07 [Einstein@Home] [error] Signature verification failed for einstein_S5R6_3.01_graphics_windows_intelx86.exe
19-Jun-2010 20:28:07 [Einstein@Home] [error] Checksum or signature error for einstein_S5R6_3.01_graphics_windows_intelx86.exe

Nothing else looks unusual with the re-install.

After 17 mins, one of the two WUs has crashed. Message log shows:

have you checked antivirus / firewall? any time a new exe is downloaded i have to go in and allow it. other wise i get the checksum error.

Hi, looks really like a

Hi,
looks really like a hardware problem. I never have seen or heard about a setup problem, that caused download errors.
If your system is overclocked, reset to factory defaults. And please run a memory test, available free (google memtest86). Check your fans and if possible try another power supply.

Another 20 mins or so and the last WU should complete. I'll run some HW tests after that, but I don't expect much.

I assume you are referring to

I assume you are referring to host #2013887. All error messages of tasks from this host point to problems reading / accessing / verifying files. I'd run a HD scan.

I'm thinking more of a Windoze problem with access. I've already tried moving the BOINC folder from one partition to another, and even moving it to a different physical disk. The problems started when the weather warmed up. I've moved the physical machine to another location for better cooling, along with a thorough dust cleaning (lowered temps by 20F).

I had upgraded this system in March from a dual core to a quad. It ran fine with both cpu and gpu WUs until the weather warmed up in early May.

I'll do HW tests shortly since my WU is about to complete.

This is the WU that completed: http://einsteinathome.org/task/179902124

Results: Completed, validation inconclusive

All 7 WUs errored out immediately.

That file is indeed missing.

file l1_0703.50_S5R4 exists and appears to be good.

Just to let you know my HW

Just to let you know my HW test results before I go off to bed.

HD scans--all drives and partitions: no errors
PS voltages - normal
MEMTEST - fails all over the place

Tested each memory stick separately and found one that failed all the time. The other stick ran through clean. Since these are Crucial brand sticks I didn't really expect them to fail. Well, time to dig out the warranty info.

Now to wait for my WU quota to roll over again tomorrow.
