Hello guys,
I got 3 computers and one of them are underperforming. I don't know why. You might have an idea ?

- PC 1: Intel dualcore T9400 2.53Ghz: 10500s for 1 wu (Arecibo Binary Pulsar Search (STSP)).
- PC2: Intel Quad Q8200 2.33Ghz: 10700-11000 for 1 Wu
- PC3: Intel Quad Q8300 2.50Ghz: 19000s ! per Wu

Any idea ?

Thank you.

I will try to check my hardware

Edit: First, I thought it was the RAM as I got only 1gb (But each WU seems to take 100mb. Then 400mb + 50mb for boinc (let's say).
So I still got plenty of ram (It's a crunch box with Gentoo in it without any GUI)

Underperforming

Check your temperatures/actual clock speeds while running. It's possible your slow machine is thermal throttling due to poor cooling.

Check Memory Mode. Single-channel or Dual-channel??
Single-channel reduce performance Quad Intel or AMD.

I examined the checkpoint times in some of your WUs. Your Q8300 shows a little anomaly. An other program reduces the performance.

Thank you Akosf.
I've only installed Gentoo and BOINC on this machine... So it quite light actually. I've checked the process currently running, and apart BOINC + WU, no other process are taking ressources.

I got 1gb ram in 1 slot. (No name)
But, I've OCed my computer a couple of months ago. I will try to run a couple of units with the stock freq.

I didn't have this problem with Quantum (Well, I guess...)

Thanks for your replies guys.
I will let you know.

Running 2 identical RAM

Message 97979 in response to message 97978

Running 2 identical RAM sticks will help performance.

But this is not causing this huge performance difference. Could be that Linux is running in the lowest power saving state because BOINC runs at very low priority (=high nice value), so Linux thinks it's not worth waking the CPU up for that.

This had been a "problem" under the Ubuntu 8 and 9 series if I remember correctly. Don't know how Gentoo handles it, though.
