I just upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista on my machine. Now, instead of just requesting work, BOINC requests work FOR GPU, and I don't get any WUs even when I need them.

I don't have an NVIDIA GPU, so I understand that. I assume that there is a setting someplace, where I can tell BOINC that I don't have a GPU, and this is now misset. But I can't find it. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Upgraded to Win7 -- now won't get WU

You have 4 tasks downloaded, the last those at 10 Mar 2010 15:24:43 UTC. That's less than half an hour ago.

You'll have to look at the type of the request; there can be separate ones for CPU and GPU work.

If you want to disable requesting GPU tasks for Einstein, go to your Einstein@Home preferences and uncheck "Use NVIDIA GPU if present."

But you do have a GPU, just not an Nvidia one. You have an ATI GPU, which will also trigger these GPU requests in BOINC. But rest assured, these only happen for a while, then the back-off on these requests is 24 hours, meaning that once every 24 hours BOINC will ping your projects with a work request for that GPU.

Why do it that way? Because any of the projects you're attached to could release an ATI GPU application tomorrow. That way BOINC could utilize it without you needing to activate it.

The preference Gundolf pointed at will not stop the work requests from an ATI GPU. The only way to disable the GPU asking for work is to make sure BOINC doesn't detect it. That can be done by installing BOINC as a service under Windows Vista and Windows 7, or by using the core client configuration file with the specific GPU disabling flag.

The core client configuration file is normally not needed for users, instead it's used for debugging and users with advanced knowledge of the program. if you feel up to it, though, see this FAQ, section "Can't I turn the damn thing off?" for more information.

It appears that I request both GPU and CPU work -- but very few CPU requests. For example, right now I have 3 WUs totalling about 14 hours of remaining work. I tried to update, and all I got was a GPU request. I've run out of work several times during the week.
