Is this programme able to crunch GPU clients faster than normal?

LOL.

Well, btw. when I say "optimizing cooling", it really came down to: take off the front cover of the case which was apparently designed to be an effective blocker of airflow :-). Looks kinda naked, but HDD feels comfortable now.

It will be interesting to see what spec card the new cuda app will use, whenever Bernd (or whoever is coding) releases it.

The GPUgrid work tends to require a high-end card, but Seti runs on the low-end cards.

The problem with GPU grid is that the program is recursive in nature, the result of WUn is used as input for WUn+1. This requires them to have short deadlines (and offer a significant credit bonus for quick returns) in order to keep the queue full for everyone.

AFAIK SETI is a single pass program, and they can accept much longer deadlines as a result.

Yeah, LOL! I've had "optimizing cooling" case configurations also - optimized to a minimum that is ... :-)

One can only assume the box designers don't actually test with powered components in situ - or is it all CAD based optimism these days?

Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

... and my other CPU is a Ryzen 5950X :-) Blaise Pascal

In my opinion CUDA is killing

In my opinion CUDA is killing SETI. People without a graphic card are migrating to projects that do not use CUDA or other graphic card SDK.

Yes. It has become a race and nobody wants to lose.

Yes. It has become a race and nobody wants to lose.

When they combine stats that will happen. They needed to separate the cpu and gpu stats out so those that only have one type are not competing against those that have both. Everyone wants to be at least near the top of the heap, or at the very bottom. No one just wants to be a member of the pack, it is human nature. This is actually all projects should look at, when you make the gpu units, keep their stats separate from the cpu folks. They compete among themselves, some will do both, others will chose one or the other. Competition is a healthy thing, making it impossible to compete is a bad thing. Kind of like you and I trying to run a 100 meter race against World Class athletes, not worth running!!! They would be at the end and we wouldn't even be halfway done!!

I agree. Just look at the

I agree. Just look at the Folding@home user stats page. Users with GPUs are far more active than all others and soon will be a majority.

I do not understand how using

I do not understand how using GPU optimized application could be bad,
in contrary. My CPU has a calculating speed of 3.4 gigaflops per core while my
Radeon 4870 card have a calculating speed of 1.2 teraflops, that is 353 times
faster. I am totally amazed that there are only a volunteer in milkyway@home
that have been capable to write a program that can use this tremendous power.

IMO Einstein@home are using a slow crawling tractor when they could be using a rocket.
