Good thing it's relatively warm weather here in Germany at the moment, with some of my PCs running dry I would otherwise have to turn on the heating again :-)
I haven't seen any description yet of the nature of the additional load that the database is experiencing.
Surely a number of things added together, we didn't spent much time to investigate this, but we surely will.
Under heavy load finally our old DB server crashed and we couldn't bring it back online for more than a last dump (that itself took several hours). So we stuffed together the hardware we could find to a new, larger server (32G RAM) that is running now. While the additional memory surely helped, the performance of this new DB is still poor. We are looking into this and already solved some issues. For now the project has been stopped again to run some offline analysis, indexing and other optimization on the database.
We'll continue to fix the problems that occur, so far we had all kinds of things, ranging from hardware failures to bugs in software not written by us, last one fixed just minutes ago, all in just a few days.
I strongly intend to have the project up and running later today.

Well I've taken the interruption in my stride : defragging a few disks, re-routing the cabling on my small farm ( gotta love those cable ties ), laying baits for the Dust Bunnies ....

I've been running a 4 day cache for several years to ride out outages, but I've just had to activate my backup project on 3 of my 4 computers (my netbook of all things managed to catch the server during a brief period of uptime).

Your netbook is taking 26 HOURS to finish just one unit, while your wingman is taking about 4!!! Those N270 processors are not very efficient at this kind of stuff are they? I see you are crunching 2 units at once, how is it as a pc? My wife wants one and I am making her use Linux, like on this pc, so we can get more than 1 gig of memory in one. Damn MS limits any XP Home pc to a max of 1 gig of memory when it is sold, before upgrading!!!! Just dumb IMO!

I presume that the explanation is that ABP1 doesn't yet have the SSE optimisations that have been incorporated into S5R5. Akosf, where are you? - you're needed again!

Yes, exactly. For those running SSE2 and SSE capable CPUs, the S5R5 units will be cruched much faster than the ABP1 units using the optimized versions for SSE and SSE2 that are included in the stock app package.
As for the outage, only 3 of my 7 active PCs managed to get thru to the server last night.
