The distributed computing landscape just keeps broadening, doesn't it? Very healthy overall, even after applying a discount for some of the unhelpful competitive behaviours.
That is one reason that I kinda like the idea behind the alternative award system with "Badges" which are earned on an alternative track of computing time applied. Two projects now issue them for the sub-projects giving participants a chance to earn something of distinction. The only problems are that the badges are not externally displayable and the methods of earning them are not consistant between the projects.
Were additional thought applied this might have become a good alternative to the standard CS metrics ...
