How to configure work cache (received 18 instead of 4-8 WUs)

I've join the project 2 days ago. First I've configured in the general preferences that I wish every 3 days to connect to the server. Shortly after I has received 16 work units! After two days I've finish 2 WUs meaning that for a period of 3 days I could complete between 4 and 6 WUs. However, yesterday while I was away the BOINC client has requested 2 additional WU.
What can I do to Boinc stop to accumulate WU since there is no chance to finish this much work in a single week.

you can reduce this to about 1 day, even lower: 0.3 day is the default.

It calculated that these 2 WUs would be needed during the remaining 3 days.

reduce the time to contact the server in your general preferences.
Update project afterwards to let your pc know about it.
Don't worry, when some units will time out - if you are short in time, consider to leave out those wus, you'll probably miss the deadline on. makes more sense to work on wus you'll have time to finish.
You can stop computation of wus in the 4.25 client individually, probably even if they did not start yet.
