Hey folks,
since my recent upgrade to Ubuntu Hardy I seem to have speedstepping problems with my Core Duo laptop. At least, the "power saving" KDE applet shows that one core keeps getting throttled, even when I use the "Performance" setting which was never the case with the two previous OS versions. Since my RAC has become much lower recently, I tend to think the applet is correct. But I have no idea why this happens or how to fix it. Heat is certainly not the problem, core temp is always much lower than what would be considered critical and before the OS upgrade everything was fine. Downgrading is not an option since I am very content with Hardy otherwise. Einstein is affected, but other projects, too.
Help is greatly appreciated.
Annika

Odd speedstepping problem
)
Have you got any further with this?
Have you tried the Ubuntu forums?
Any further details?

Imagine that, Linux not honoring a setting... What is this world coming to? ;-P I guess it's a brand GNU world... ;-)

Groan, the puns still need working on... :-(
What do you want? Cutting edge, bleeding edge, or boring? Choose a kernel number and take your pick! Or is choice a GNU-thing for you? :-p
More interesting is to find out what is actually happening. Then a bug fix can be put in if or as needed. That's how Open Source (and other systems) get fixed. Open Source is just more open about it. The rest is for another thread in the Cafe!

This may be kinda obvious,
)
This may be kinda obvious, but did you change the power settings for each core? That's all I can think of for why that one core wouldn't ramp up in Performance mode, cuz you just changed it for one of the cpus. I made that mistake before, so that's why I bring it up.
And to rule out if your speedstepping settings from the GUI are getting used or not, do cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/ondemand/ignore_nice_load. Do it for cpu0 and cpu1. You should get "0" to not throttle einsten.
Thanks, I'll try that as soon

Thanks, I'll try that as soon as I have my laptop back. It's in repair atm with an unrelated problem (well, perhaps not so unrelated to BOINC since it's the CPU fan that gave up the ghost recently... but still within warranty, so I got lucky). Good to be back after a break due to Uni/job/too much political activism...

But a certain cruncher might be for posting it ... :)
