Well I got 14 on the beginner level of the Black Hole Hunter game - see E@H home page message of 27/6/08.

It's a terrific demo of GW waves to sounds.

Anyone beat that? :-)

Cheers, Mike.

Bag the Black Hole

I got 21 on the beginner level without missing any, and then I got 24 on the advanced level but missed the last one once. Some of the choices sounded like they had multiple signals so I think I had a few lucky guesses. Neat how the sound of the chirp waveform was slightly different for mergers with different masses...

14, 27, 24 ... I missed none

14, 27, 24 ... I missed none on beginner, one on intermediate, and one also on advanced. Some very tricky choices though. Very interesting!

This reminds me of, I think

This reminds me of, I think about 18 months ago, when one of the project scientists ( Peter Saulson? ) was on the nightshift in the IFO control room. He plugged the differential arm output into a set of speakers and was able to listen to the 'motion' of the arms in realtime. He described a variety of noise patterns - hums, thrums, bangs, crackles and whatnot - while he worked. :-)

Cheers. Mike.
