A new MacOS PPC App is available from our Beta Test page.

This is a new App for MacOS PPC that uses the same "App switching" mechanism we have in the 4.38 Linux App, here to distinguish between AltiVec- and G3 machines.

Both Apps included in this package use BOINC API as of 2008-04-18, which means that they should run with all available Core Clients (with possible exception of versions 6.1.12 - 6.1.14, which have been deprecated anyway AFAIK).

The AltiVec App (running on G4 and G5) features a new "kernel loop" that should give some speedup compared to 4.29/4.41 (about 10% averaged over a whole Task).

The app_info.xml should allow for "smooth" transition from App versions 4.03, 4.29 and 4.41. 4.03 Tasks should be finished with 4.03, all other with the new 4.43. Users that don't have a 4.03 on their machine anymore would probably see an error message in the Client logs, but that's better than the 4.03 being deleted while there are still tasks assigned to it, as it would happen with a different app_info.xml and some Core Clients.

You are encouraged to check the app_info.xml on your own before starting the client.

Plese test and report!

My AltiVec Machines see it

My AltiVec Machines see it roughly 33% faster than the current official 4.03.

The WU hasn't finished yet

The WU hasn't finished yet (running on a G5, OSX 10.4.11, 2Gb ECC RAM, BOINC 6.1.16), but it seems around 25% faster so far. Great work!

My task completed in 10K

My task completed in 10K seconds less than before ~20-25% faster (40K vs. 50K seconds) and it validated! :)
