Removing Dead Computers

I would think that it would be beneficial to remove computers from the computer list on our own account.
I know that in my case I loaded Boinc (for the Einstein Project) on a linux machine. The hard drive crashed (my fault, not linux) and I had to reload the box. When I reloaded the machine I had to give it to an enduser. Because the laptop was not in my control anymore, I didn't want to load Boinc on it. Now it sits on my computer list dead with out the ability to ever complete a work unit.
I'm sure something to this extent as happened to someone else as well that is running multiple computers.

It sure has!! If you do a keyword search for "remove dead computers" you will find a number of previous threads discussing this.
In short you have results in the database tied to this host so the details of the host need to remain. Unfortunately that is still true even if the work was never completed and returned.

I agree that there are several instances that "remove dead computers" have been posted. Remember that this was for the "Wish List". So with that in mind the objective is for us to be able to actually remove those computers from the list that are no longer applicable. Especially if they have 0.00 work units completed.

I actually hadn't forgotten it. I was simply trying to indicate why I thought your wish might not be able to be granted. I was also trying to give you access to prior discussion where more detailed reasons why the hosts had to remain might be obtained. I can vaguely remember reading those reasons some time ago.

It might be your objective but I would guess right now that they are probably chasing more important bugs and features to try to make the product handle the various science projects in a more stable, polished, and reliable manner. You often see too many "don't blame project xyz, that's another Boinc bug". It's probably important that they try to eliminate those things as much as possible.

Actually, they can be deleted, but they have to be dead with a stake driven through their heart.
When the last WU for a computer has been purged, it can then be deleted. If there is a result outstanding against a host, it would corrupt the DB to remove the host.
