E@H now accounts for 150MB of storage on my computer. It seems that old files are not being removed. Am I supposed to do it, or is boinc messing up somehow.
In lieu of a better approach, I stopped accepting new tasks on this computer and when the queue is dry then I was going to delete what was left, more or less. I live on the edge I guess, so better advice would be welcome.

You can run the cache dry and then clean things out. Whatever is missing according to the server will be downloaded again when you allow new work to be fetched. Mostly only the datafile you're working on and the application.
edit: I just checked my EAH directory size, I only use 42.5MB, while the slot uses 2.2MB. Perhaps it's different with other datafiles.

I keep a REALLY small cache - .01 days - and my computer lists Einstein as taking up 106 megs. That sounds normal to me.

There was a bug that resulted in certain files not being removed in S5R2, this was discussed in this thread.
I guess 100MB to 120 MB is about average.

If it's not filled with ancient files, the size of the EAH project directory depends much on how many different active series you already have worked on, series that have not been completed yet.
Each big data file contains data for a ton of WUs, so if you receive work from a series that you have already crunched, there will be only a tiny download.
If you receive work from a different series, a second big data file will be downloaded, but without removing the previous one because that one might be reused as long as the series isn't completely done yet.
Once one series is done, the BOINC client will receive a delete request for the big data file of this series from the BOINC server.
Sometimes it happens that such a delete request is missing, that's why I remove old (older than 1/2 year) data files now and then.
Usually that is not necessary and the server makes the BOINC client clean up what isn't needed anymore.

It's not just the number of series you've worked that are incomplete in this run either. S5R2 and S5R3 are using the same data files, so fairly late in s5r2 file deletion was turned off. All my machines have fairly large drives so i haven't been closely watching to see if R3 started with the same data files that R2 ended with or not.
