I think the deadlines of Seti@Home should best be discussed with the staff of SETI@Home at http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_forum.php?id=10. Einstein@Home had it's own deadline controversy a few months back, where the deadline was considered too short, so shorter deadlines are currently no concerns for E@H.

What you are not taking into consideration is that not everyone runs their computers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and at 100% allocation to Einstein. Quite frankly, if the deadlines were any shorter, a few of the people that I've been paired up with would not be able to make the deadline. A few of them have returned results on days 11 or 12 out of the 14-day timeframe. If the deadline was set to 7 days instead of 14, it would surely press those hosts into EDF (Earliest Deadline First) mode, which causes misunderstandings and/or anger because BOINC will refuse to get any work from any project because it would realize the Einstein task(s) were in danger of not being turned in by the deadline.

All things considered, the deadlines as they are now are either "just right" or may need to be increased to 16 days instead of 14 days...IMO...

YMMV...

Even so, what I posted is pertinent in case others read and have the same thought about Einstein...

As for the SETI deadlines, they do seem to have deadlines that are way too long in some cases... I have a few that are now showing up as being due on December 24th... I can only guess that they are not wanting to force EDF on people...?
