I like the improved approach in the new client which makes it easier and more direct to add a project.

It seems the list is updated with each release of the client.

One thing that might be nice (if it were possible) would be a status or comment field. That way, a project could be tagged (before someone joined it) as active, closed, beta, or something like that.

That might help new users make somewhat more informed choices.

As an example, folks are STILL joining the Predictor project -- which on its face seems to be a going project, when in fact, there has been absolutely no administrative effort going on over there for months and no new work for about three months.

A tag field there (something that perhaps could be updated from some source) could warn folks off of bad boy projects like Predictor.

Who is to judge that?

RE: Fair question, as there

Fair question, as there is no centralized evaluation 'authority'. I suppose I was simply venting here a bit.

I suppose if there were no changes to the home page for say 60 days or more, that might be a flag to use. I guess ideally, for a project to go live in BOINC it would have some review mechanism including an agreement to notify (perhaps notify the folks controlling the release of the client) when they were going dormant.

What are you trying to say?

Message 75051 in response to message 75050

What are you trying to say? That it isn't normal for any project to have no work for prolonged moments of time? That if a project does (for whatever its reason may be, good or bad decided by whom?), that it should be what? Blacklisted?

Then how about the other projects that may have work now, but we know of them they have no work for prolonged moments of time? LHC, Pirates, NanoHive? (and perhaps, in a way, Seti?)

But otherwise the BOINC site says clearly: "You can participate in several projects, ensuring that your computer will be kept busy even when one project has no work."

Damn the science,
damn the scientists,
damn their deadlines,
I want to have work!

That one I like. I don't know if it's possible to do, but I like it anyway. Will ask around. :-)

I have a suggestion to add to

I have a suggestion to add to bonic client.

Adding a priority tag for work when you know your wingman has finished his/her part. This would work for most projects, but for some it wouldn't.

I try to complete work as quickly as I can when I know the other half is done.

This might interfere with the other projects deadlines you crunch for though, wouldn't it? I think it would be easier to just have a shorter deadline, although this won't work for all projects due to their being unable to be up and running 24/7/365.
