The second result was returned 22 Oct 2007 1:13:09 UTC (1h too late) before
the third was issued 22 Oct 2007 0:04:53 UTC.

First result reported (22 Oct 2007 1:13:09 UTC) after its deadline (21 Oct 2007 13:34:00 UTC).

The third result had already been sent out, as a result of the missed deadline, before the late report came in. However, because the third result hadn't reported yet, the first one was accepted - it was, after all, only a little bit late.

The newest versions of BOINC (v5.10.xx) can save time by accepting instructions to abort workunits which, like this one, have become unecessary. However, I don't think the Einstein servers have yet been configured to send out the necessary messages. In any event, the 'abort' message would only be sent out if your machine happened to contact the Einstein server for some other reason before it had actually started calculations on the WU in question - this mechanism doesn't cancel any work which is already in progress.
