Dear Project Coordinators;

The link on the E@H front page titled "anticipated for 2009" goes to a nice Powerpoint presentation, which included a timetable for the various detectors and what they will be working on. But I am unclear as to how that translates into a timetable for us number crunchers. For example, if the detectors are going to "start S6" in June 2009, when would it be expected that we would start getting S6 workunits?

Thanks.

Just as a side note, it appears that we have slightly less than two years worth of crunching time on the S5R3 run unless there are a lot of new participants and/or more efficient algorithms developed, and who knows how long will be required to crunch the future S5R4 run.

Bottom line, it appears we have plenty of work to keep us busy until such time as the S6 data is available!

Hi!

The projected "remaining time" for S5R3 on the Server Status page is not yet meaningful. This number is based on the rate of S5R3 results crunched each day since S5R3 started, but we still have S5R2 results being crunched as well so that less than 100% of the overall "workforce" is crunching on S5R3. You will see this number shrinking to about 12 ... 15 month in the next weeks, I guess.

As to the long term strategy:

So S5R3 should extend well into 2008, crunching on a subset of S5 data (which has only now completed the data gathering). Bernd has written somewhere that after that, a S5R4 is planned which will use data from the complete, 1 year, S5 science detector run, which will extend into 2009, I guess.

For S5 we began crunching data even before the run was completed, so I guess in 2009 we can begin to crunch on parts of S6 as well. There's no danger of running out of raw data even as the detectors are now undergoing upgrading.

Indeed, because the data analysis is at least as critical to the ultimate success of the project as the detectors themselves, and new methods of data analysis are being developed continually going forward, this crunching part of the project is not likely to run dry, ever! ;)

Thanks, that's what I was after!
