I installed BOINC a few days ago, and all it does is tell me via the screen saver that no project is running. I understood that the project would automatically download to my computer. It hasn't as yet, but I do not know if there is something else that I should do for it to take place. Any suggestions? Thank you.

These are the rough steps involved:-
1. Sign up for an account at the project website. They email you the URL + Key.
2. Make very sure you save this email somewhere *very* safe.
3. Download Boinc Installer (link on project website).
4. Install Boinc using the installer you downloaded.
5. As part of the install procedure, a dialog box "Attach to project" will popup.
6. Use careful cut and paste to fill in the URL and Key from your email.
7. Make sure you have no leading or trailing spaces in what you cut and paste.
8. Boinc GUI will start and you can click on the "Transfers" tab of the GUI if you want to watch E@H stuff downloading.
9. Use the "Messages" tab to watch associated messages as it all happens.
10. Use the "Work" tab to check out what work you have and its progress.
11. Use the "projects" tab to see what projects you have signed up for (ie E@H).
12. On the website checkout your preferences and edit them there if you need to.
13. The defaults are fine but if you change anything you can go to the Boinc GUI and right-click E@H on the "Projects" tab to get an "update".
14. Play around with your account page on the website and "drill down" into all the interesting stuff about your progress.

Hope this helps.

Edit: If for some reason you get Boinc installed and running without seeing the "Attach to Project" dialog box, just open the Boinc GUI and find "Attach to project...." on the "Settings" menu.

Cheers,
Gary.

Yes, you need to download the Boinc installer from the Boinc website which is linked on the front page of E@H website. While you are there getting the download, click on the "Old Windows Installer" link under the "Installation Type" heading (next column) and read up all about the Boinc GUI you are about to install, the function of all the tabs, and the purpose of all the menu items. Read it again when you play with Boinc and you'll soon get the hang of it.

Edit: While I'm at it, please start this sort of thread on the "Getting Started" board rather than in the Cafe where it certainly doesn't belong. We'll have the Cafe dwellers evicting us shortly :).

Cheers,
Gary.
