Sometimes I just want Einstein to not exec at all.

However it restarts at boot time and ok I can snooze it from by right-clicking the icon and selecting snooze, but...

Is there a way (without completely un-installing it, to just have it not start up at all - by default?
Thanks

Can Einstein at home hybernate?

You can set BOINC to run the applications only when the computer is idle for x amount of minutes, through your preferences.

The preferences are in http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/prefs.php?subset=global. Scroll down, press edit.
Make sure "Do work while computer is in use?" is set to No.
Set the amount of minutes in "Do work only after computer is idle for x minutes" to an amount you want the computer to wait when it is idle.
Scroll down to the end of the page and press the Update Preferences button.

Now open BOINC Manager, Projects tab, left click on Einstein@Home and click on the Update button on the left. The preferences will be downloaded and used immediately.

Your computers are hidden, so we can’t tell what OS you’re running … but if BOINC is not installed as a service, in Windows or Mac OS you can prevent it from launching automatically by disabling or removing its startup item. On a Mac, go to System Preferences > Accounts > (your account) > Startup Items; select BOINC Manager and click the “– icon underneath. Under Windows, move or delete the BOINC Manager shortcut from the StartUp folder. Sorry, I don’t know how it works on a Linux system, but the principle will be the same.

Thanks for the help - but the (my) problem still persists.

I'm running under w2k sp4

I've set "don't start until > 60 mins idle" setting but einstein_S5R2_4 is always running (100%cpu) when I log in - even though I have clicked to update the new setting from the BOINC manager.

The machine is essentially being used as a single user machine - just my account from home PC

Can you show me your Messages

Can you show me your Messages from the Messages tab?

To do so, exit BOINC Manager (File->exit), or right click on the icon in the system tab and press Exit.

Restart BOINC (Start->Programs->BOINC->Boinc Manager)
Wait a minute.
Then copy all messages from the Messages tab to a post window here.

Please don't do it when you've been running for a whle already as then we get 2MB of messages here.
