Crunching more than one project

When BOINC is attached to more than one project, it only crunches one at a time. When this happens, how much time is actually spent on a project before it moves on to the next one, given any particular combination of ratios?

In other words: if I am a member of three projects and they're all set to "100" for priority, how long does BOINC spend on each one?

Crunching more than one project

The default is 1 hour before switching to the next project. This can be changed by going to your account page and changing the value in your General preferences.

Or you set seperate

Or you set seperate preference groups for your projects. CPDN runs only an hour per loop for me, while the other 3 projects run 2 hours. Easily done by excluding CPDN from the default group and making sure that the host_venue in the client_state.xml is set to anything else but home. ;)

Ah... that's new. Didn't

Ah... that's new. Didn't realize that had been instituted as a feature rather than the old system of ratios. Thanks!

Um... He is probably fooling himself. If there is a discrpancy in the general settings for the computer, BOINC will pick one at random.

That may be true, JM, but I

That may be true, JM, but I haven't run into it yet and am running in this way since early January. Maybe just because you always hammered on it that it wouldn't work, I thought I'd test it. It works for me. :)

XXXXXXXXX - 2005-03-02 14:59:36 - Project prefs: no separate prefs for school; using your defaults
climateprediction.net - 2005-03-02 14:59:36 - Project prefs: using separate prefs for school
Einstein@Home - 2005-03-02 14:59:36 - Project prefs: no separate prefs for school; using your defaults
LHC@home - 2005-03-02 14:59:36 - Project prefs: no separate prefs for school; using your defaults

CC4.24 on the other hand will switch between projects every 4 seconds. But that's another story. ;)

Those log messages are for the project prefs, not the general prefs. The project prefs can be set to different venues, and it is supposed to work. The general prefs are all need to be the same.

Using a dual processor Mac G5

Using a dual processor Mac G5 usually ran 2 SETI WU at a time. With their recent server problems I signed up for Einstien, but now the G5 is crunching 2 SETI and 2 Einstien simultaneously. Time share is set to 200 for SETI and 10 for Einstien. Any thoughts? Will Einstien turn it's self off after a while?

Hmm, actually, I just noticed

Hmm, actually, I just noticed that there is both the resource share and the time between switching applications... I'm confused now. How do I get it to spend more time on one project than others?

Each project has a resource share of 100, so if you have 5 projects on one computer they will each get 20% of the total resource share as in 100 of the 500 total.

If you want more time for Einstein@Home change your resource share to 200, 300, 400, etc. and the time allocated to this project will increase. The resource share number is not a percentage though many of the GUIs will display it as such ...

Oh, and don't forget to update the computer after you change the resource share in the account web page.
