No idea. It's an extrapolated guess. I took 530.35 (the value of one of the units Kirsten downloaded) and divided by 391.16 (the value of all of the units I processed). I then multiplied that by 93500 seconds (how long it took me), then rounded up to the nearest 10k seconds, thus arriving at 130000. Keeping it simple, I gave it a pad of approx 50 minutes either direction...
It's just a guess, but that's how I arrived at it. Oh, and yes, due to the OS penalty, it's still slower than yours on Linux... Only way I'd know for sure is to actually run one of those units. I may give it a shot depending on how the new Linux app performs. As I mentioned here and elsewhere, I was not doing work here until such time as they put apps in beta or could show that it was dependable...
Okay, looks like it's still worth crunching under Linux, than, if the difference is still that huge- after all, my box should be significantly slower than yours. Even if your estimate is a bit generous it still drives the point home in a pretty drastic way: The Windows app must still be seriously messed up performance-wise. At least on AMDs. I would check if the same applies for Intel (guess the difference will be smaller there but haven't really tested), but I that's going to take some more time as I need this notebook for Uni, and to be able to use it sensibly I have to have the WiFi set up for our tricky IPSec-VPN-network, which is known to be a real pain if you're running anything else than XP or OS X...
Kirsten, I do hope to have you back here when things are running a bit more smoothly. I know it doesn't look like it atm, but I normally experienced this project to be one of the most reliable ones around...

It is... ;-) With synthetic benchmarks like SiSoft Sandra, I'm generally just slightly slower than a Athlon FX-57. The 50MHz clock rate advantage it has makes up for the better memory speed that I have...because K8 isn't memory starved...
Oh, and I'm not so much on wireless stuff... Still to insecure for my liking...even with WPA2...

While I can see your point, strict unyielding ridigity to "the letter of the law" is not always the best policy, IMHO and YMMV...
My view was that your experiences as a whole were germaine to the discussion, including the RAC policy and the Duration Correction Factor in the estimations of completion times. You promptly declared the DCF as "OT" as well, when it is clearly not as it directly related to what you were seeing... All of what you experienced led to a rapid detachment... Others may benefit from knowing why you experienced what you experienced...

The longest length I have seen for E@H WU's on my Intel dual core is about 15 hours or so.....
I am waiting for the new quad cores to come down in price, and I'll plug one right into my mobo. I was rather surprised to see that my newest BIOS update gave me compatibility for these...but right now at abt $800, it's a tad more than I'd like to invest right now.
But I imagine there'll bea rather large reduction in actual time spent crunching WU's with the quad core...I have already seen a larger reduction with the Core2 Duo.
I have heard in the next month or so, Intel's suppose to be doing abt a 30% price reduction, and a larger one for the quad cores will likely occur when they go tothe single die for the quad cores rather than the two die system they're presently using...

I did *not* declare the DCF discussion as off topic, though. On the contrary it was very useful to me. The off topic subject was my complaint about the forum rules. I wrote:
