Hi Paul
Got a problem that's affecting more and more users and humbly request you to please add it to your FAQ.
You can get a complete rundown from this post once the SAH boards come back up.
Essentially users end up attached to an empty url. Doesn't affect the newer 4.6x 4.2x clients, but its still possible to kludge it in 4.19
The user does not realise the problem until the first time the client is restarted after accidentally attaching to an empty url. And that could be days, weeks, months after the error actually happened.
Symptoms are apparent when starting BOINC and it does a quick icon shuffle in the system tray and BOINC won't load.
An inspection of the stdout.txt reveals lines such as:
CCYY-MM-DD 17:03:04 [http:///] Project prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults
CCYY-MM-DD 17:03:04 [http:///] Host ID not assigned yet
The [http:///] indicates the empty url attached.
The solution is to open a command prompt, cd to the BOINC installation folder (usually c:\Program Files\BOINC) and detach the url manually with:
boinc_cli -detach_project http:/// (versions 4.13 & 4.19)
boinc -detach_project http:/// (versions 4.2x if user upgraded)
I'm sure you can run with this and add a bit of sanity fluff, like be careful and backup etc.
Thanks
Chris

An earlier note from Paul indicated he doesn't have enough time available to hang out in all the forums, so he's concentrating on the number cruncher boards. You may want to post this (or a reference to it) over there.

Thanks for that Randy
I had hoped Paul would spot it overnight (here anyway), but I've sent him an email about it this am.
