Doesn't matter how long I leave my cursor there, just tried waiting for over 2 minutes and still no status balloon. Would be nice if it still worked but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Thanks anyhow.

Maybe it's an artifact of WIN98SE? I'm running on XP Pro, XP Home and 2000 and all mine show connection to loaclhost as well as progress of WUs (including 2 WUs on the P4 2.8). All puters running BOINC 5.8.11
I just happen to have to dual booter with 98SE and 2KSP4 running 5.8.15, so I just checked to verify your observations here.
For 9x:
Hovering on the tray icon doesn't give task status, just the window name.
For 2KSP4:
Intially landing and hovering over the icon doesn't popup any balloon, I have to jog it a skosh over the icon and then it pops up a balloon with both the window name and task status.

i have boinc 5.8.11 and just for the heck of it i just tryd it as well. hoverd over the icon for a good minute.. even moved it a tad. nothin showd up. hmm. now thats a thinker.
and. this system came with xp installd, upgraded to sp1 then sp2.

LOL, yeah when I first beta'd 5.8.0 everything was looking good, a few problems but nothing too horrible. Then it went downhill fast (IOW, I was left wishing I hadn't tried them). :-)
Now 15 revs later we're at what should have been 8.2! ;-)
Oh, well, if it's it's good enough for MS then it should be good enough for everyone, right? At least we didn't have to wait a month for each update. :-)
