It would appear that while communication from the project staff (remember, the custodian for Silence Hall and the Physics building has additional duties) is a scarce commodity, a dedicated editor is roaming the message boards looking for inappropriate posts. If I am misreading this, Gary can usually straighten me out. Are Ya there Mate?

Hi tweakster,

Yep, I'm here - for a short while just now anyway.

I learned something today. I've been otherwise occupied for the last few days and I've only had a couple of brief looks at things when able. I've just started looking today and saw the thread you referred to with an unusual symbol beside it which I didn't immediately recognise. In trying to decipher what you were alluding to, I've now worked out that this symbol indicates a deleted thread.

I didn't delete the thread - I've only just read it. The OP was probably trying to start a flamewar rather than trying to express only feelings of frustration so I guess it was deleted for that reason. The interesting thing for me was to observe the obvious maturity of all who responded. Nobody was silly enough to rise to the bait.

There are plenty of examples of other posts expressing genuine frustration that have not been deleted. I've posted a few of those myself and so have you so it's a bit hard to say that there is any culture of supressing negative opinions. I delete "double-up" posts from time to time but would not delete any post just because it contained a "negative opinion". Deliberate hatefulness or open hostility are a slightly different matter.

Cheers,
Gary.

I'm still strying to figure out why this thread was hidden. Maybe some of the posts in the thread should have been hidden, but the whole thread?

The reason the thread was hidden is because it spoke a truth someone in the project does not want you to know, and that truth is... this project is a broke down mess run by an idiot.

Your forum moderator has chosen to call the remarks deliberately hateful. I say the project's lackey should address the hate this project's staff and leader has for crunchers. In the past weeks not one of them has bothered to take even 2 minutes to post a note. And your project lackey thinks you're all stupid enough to believe they cannot spare 2 minutes. Guess what... most of you ARE stupid enough to believe that and part of the proof will be the fact that some will incorrectly brand this post a rant about credits and others will join in that lie and voice their agreement, like good little sheep. And there will be various other lies too, all designed to submerge the truth. Dolts!!!

Do the moderators here not communicate with each other? Or are you implying that the thread was somehow identified as a flame by an automatic script, and hidden without human intervention?

I don't know how it was

I don't know how it was hidden but its sounds like dagonasty was at work again so hide away. Most of what he types is not appropriate for young eyes and is down right insulting to someone with a bit of foul language thrown in. Id say he would be the most hidden poster on BOINC forums. Make's you wonder what happened when you read his threads from a month ago to now. Went from thoughtful and helpful to nasty and foul-mouthed. Maybe his dog died or something.
So i hope dagonasty goes away soon and dagorath returns and im guessing it needed to be hidden if it was anything like some of his posts on ABC or CPDN

Your post was deleted due to your frankly objectionable comments about our German friends. What you think of the management of the project is your own pleasure. However if you care to exclude derisive, insulting and racist content then in future your posts will be welcome. Otherwise you will be excluded from posting here.

Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

We communicate when/if necessary. Flame/hate mail of the sort that was deleted recently does not need prior communication. All deletions of such material are at the discretion of whichever moderator happens to notice it first. We do have other significant responsibilities outside of forum life, after all :).

Cheers,
Gary.

I can honestly say I do not

I can honestly say I do not envy the moderators here. I used to work for an ISP that was also a national BBS system, in which I had to moderate the message boards. I never want to do that again.

I applaud the moderators for doing this hard job.

Hmm... Trolls usually hide

Hmm...

Trolls usually hide but it seems Projects somewhat in Trouble - smelling a potentially easy kill - attract them enough to leave their housings into the open (?)
