My Einstein is way too slow. How can I speed it up?

I've been running Einstein for about 4 or 5 days and it only has 28%. I run Seti@Home and it runs pretty fast. I have set the resource to 100 like the Seti program and have had the Einstein pro be the only process running and still nothing. I doubt it's server probs. I use a T1 line and have a Pentium 2 400 with plenty of hard drive space. Any advice would be appreciated I would like to participate faster.

I don't run Einstein on my PII-400 (because it is a relatively slow machine) so I can't give you actual times as a guide but I have observed that Einstein WUs take roughly twice as long in Windows and three times as long in Linux as Seti WUs. :(

Try disabling E@H screen saver - it may slow down calculations significantly if you have an old video-card

The graphics can consume a lot of CPU time. Please see the FAQ list on the E@H front page for some hints about this.

i think...by their nature...whether it be larger files to crunch...or the nature of the calculations involved...an einstein work unit is going to naturally take longer to crunch than a seti work unit...it's taking longer for me to crunch an einstein work unit too...but setting the screensaver to shut off after a short while really does speed things up.

Looks like your p2 is to slow to run E@H even if it was not running anything else so you will miss the DEADLINE. Do you run 24/7?

My pIII 450 does a WU in 40H, so your pII 400 should do a WU in about 45H.
Id recommend that you set the value for “connect to project every� to 0.1 or lower, to minimize the risk of returning results late and to improve the turnaround time.
Then you're really interested in a subject, there is no way to avoid it. You have to read the Manual.

Get a faster computer. My 3.2GHz HT takes up to 12hrs on one cpu.....a p2 400 should take forever.
