Why can't I merge these two hosts?

Both're the same PC just installs on different harddrives. Both drives are in the same PC, and I've had both talk to the server so the hardware/OS IDs should be identical.

Merging hosts

Most likely because the higher numbered Host ID has a lower RPC Sequence Number.

Well, eventually the higher

Well, eventually the higher ID's RPC SeqNo will surpass the lower ID's , then you should be able to merge them.

I suppose it may be possible to edit the client_state file as well, but I've never tried it and could be somewhat "risky" to any work you had onboard.

There should be no problem

There should be no problem with work in progress as long as you exit BOINC. See
here at LHC@home board. They have this problem a long time already and that thread is the latest.
