I don't have a C3. The unfortunate answer is, yes, they are significantly slower than a comparably clocked amd or intel chip, especially in floating point, which is a particular weakness of those chips.
They were designed for low power consumption, not high performance computation.

The VIA-C3 is a fantastic processor. They run extremely well, don't put out heat at all (3 or 4 watts consumption vs. 70 watts for an Athlon or Pentium) and basically run like crazy.
I've got a number of them here -- you can have a whole system that runs at 30 watts.
.... but they don't do floating point math well at all and I wouldn't even think of running BOINC on them for that reason.
Thanks for the answers. I didn´t think much of fast computation when i bought the two c3 boards for some home infrastructure and convenience stuff ;) In fact it was for the low power consumption why i chose them. But whatsoever. No one said that this project must be done within a day's time.

The word "glacial" comes to mind, but it'd be interesting to see what happens when you try it.
Takes about 6.7hrs to do a WU vs under 1 hr for my XP .
For the amount of power it uses, I don't mind leaving it on, and if its gonna be on, it might as well be working on something.
For a CPU/Motherboard combo that cost me under $5 it aint that bad.

Hello,
I have a router running with a VIA C3 1 GHz Nehemia CPU.
I have joined the VIA C3 Slow Motion Team, but I don't appear on the Team List?
Antworte mal! Danke!

Yep, I run one for Predictor@home since they have the smallest WUs.

Hi,
just got my first credits. It seems, that my C3 takes more than 75 hrs for one result ;)
