A couple of weeks ago, Seti@Home sent emails to inactive users, inviting them to come back and crunch again. Starting a few days after the first of the emails went out, E@H has shown an increase in active users.
Is this coincidence or a side effect of the S@H mailing?
The spike around 10 September 2006 is due to S@H being down.

S@H email boosts E@H active users?

I think Rosetta benefitted from SIMAP "finishing" its regular load and dropping to a part-time project.
Popular magazines reporting

Popular magazines reporting about projects and even more TV shows can cause such things. I have seen a report about CPDN in TV lately, read one about LHC and seen the movie Contact in TV, which all might have increased the join rate.
Maybe http://www.seedmagazine.com/ had a CD with BOINC on it (special BOINC built with binaries called seedmgr / seedcmd).
i think what it is is that

i think what it is is that people join seti at home and then see that there is more than one project and diced to join them to

Which is the reason BOINC was created in the first place!
