However it was not landry_m I was calling shallow, but myself. I was merely paying a complement to the gentleman for his dashing good looks and meant nothing by it. landry_m need not fear for his virtue around me, I can assure you of that. I'm sure Chipper, you have seen many pretty ladies that you have admired with no intention of any further pursuit. Were our landry to attempt such a pursuit of myself he would be sadly disappointed at the outcome. :-)

Well, if
he's read your anti- bullying
thread, then he saw the remarks about
you and married men, and therefore knows that
wisdom, along with smarts and intelligence, can be
added to the feathers in your cap, or where ever it
is you British birds put your feathers. :) It's
evident how many suitors and admirers you have
here and at Seti, and so without regard to
pursuit or outcome, I'm happy to
express this small token of
appreciation and affection
for the way you make
the world a better,
brighter
place

[Edit: Chipper, I went and took the BBC test the nation IQ test and only came out with 124. I guess I'm not such a brain box after all!]
Thanks for the link to 'BBC test the nation'. I'm looking forward to taking it, when I'm a little less strangely (pleasantly) distracted. :) I'll let you know how I do. You're welcome to pick my brains, but I can't promise it won't be gooey... C:heers, Es99.
Wow. Chipper. I don't know what to say. That's really sweet of you. I'm still confused about the suitors and admirers comment, but obviously you're seeing something that I really don't.
As to pursuit or outcome, you might have been in big trouble there if I hadn't already given my heart to someone else.
I hope I will still be allowed to pick your brains though. (Although for some reason the final scene from Hannibal (Thomas Harris's book) springs rather sickeningly to mind.)
Let me know how you scored on the BBC IQ test. However it might have a slight cultural bias towards the Brits, but I think I may need the advantage. :-)
I had a look at the BBC test, and started to take it. I haven't an opinion regarding any cultural bias, but when I came upon the symbolic section, it required memorization of symbols/values, and I see no correlation between memory and intelligence. I'd add that I've taken many IQ tests over the years and the symbol/value section of all of them have had the table accessible, and in only one instance did I score outside the MENSA range.

I think you've got a point there. I don't know about IQ tests, so I can't compare them. Did you try the one Chipper suggested? Was that a proper one? I hope it was because I got a better score on that. What is the MENSA range?

Sorry, seem to have a lot of questions there ;-)
Es99,
LOL !!! Questions are wonderful things - they are the best tools for accelerating our acquisition of knowledge and understanding. :-)
No, I didn't go to the site that Chipper suggested...yet! It was about 2 a.m. here in Pennsylvania (or is it Transylvania?) when I signed off the BBC test site, and I'd become a bit frustrated, not in the best condition/frame-of-mind for testing.
MENSA doesn't use IQ scores, per se, because of variations in tests, explanation here. That said, generally-speaking, scoring 140+ on an IQ test is a good indication of probable success at qualifying on a MENSA or MENSA-accepted test.
Here is the site of MENSA UK. I think you'll enjoy the read and the puzzles/tests.

Oh, and I just remembered how I ended up being called an attention whore over at seti..it all started when I put my laundry in Misfit's Babe of the Day thread.
If you ask me, a babe is a babe..but I guess I'm just misunderstood. :-(
Wow. Chipper. I don't know what to say. That's really sweet of you. I'm still confused about the suitors and admirers comment, but obviously you're seeing something that I really don't.
Well, among the 'pyrotechnics' of the Seti thread, I thought I saw something in the banter. I'm certainly not naming names here, to keep this a peaceful, tranquil place, to the extent that's possible. :) I'm glad you liked it. :) I'm proud to be on record (it's in the fine print) as one who recognizes and defends virtue, and yours is safe around me.

I can console myself thinking the imaginative masterminds are already all taken, but I suspect the truth is they simply know better. :)

Haven't quite gotten around to taking the BBC test yet. When I took the 'Tickle' one, I didn't take it like I was being timed. Don't know if the responses were timed and reflected in the score or not. I appreciate the value of time limits, but that doesn't mean I like being under them. Giving the test a fair shot means giving it my best shot, and hopefully I'll get to it soon. Cheers, in advance, for your influence on me regarding cultural bias; if I do better than 120 you'll deserve some credit :)

I didn't time myself on the Tickle test either as I was making dinner while I did it. I tend to fall to pieces when given time limits, so I didn't like the BBC one because of that.
I view IQ tests like horoscopes. They are a bit of fun, but I don't take them seriously.
My horoscope today:
"At last you can turn a new chapter where work and wellbeing are involved. All the effort you've been putting into your job lately is about to pay off. Your new health regimes, too, mean you're now looking stunning and feeling great. You have every right to feel pleased with yourself today."
See, it's uncanny how accurate these things are! ;-)
I had a go on the BBC test, was quite some fun. With a score of 118, I think I may be either spacially or graphically dyslexic. But like Es99, I don't take them too seriously, more for the mental exercise.
Intelligence seems to be a relative thing, and measurement is subjective. Skills that would pass for an IQ test in the "civilised cities", would be quite useless for everyday survival in the outback. More importantly, what each person holds as important and clever is the difference between them; and makes us individual. We all have unique skills and I consider all people to have a skill or knowledge, a genius if you like, unique to themselves.
