How can Boinc, running as a service, be made to connect automatically to the internet when it needs to?
My Broadband connection cuts out after a period of inactivity. It is set for auto log on but Boinc does not use it and comes up with the following when the connection is down:
"12/08/2006 13:03:32|Einstein@Home|Scheduler request failed: couldn't resolve host name"
I am off for holiday shortly and want Boinc to continue operating without user input.
I have 1 pc running XP (home) with Fsecure anti virus. Boinc activity is set to "Run always" and "Network activity always available".
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

it takes your dsl modem a little bit of time to reinitiate the pppoe connection to your isp,, i had a similare set up but got tired of the delays.. if you have a firewall, or if your modem allso acts as a nat router, you can set it to "allwayse on" atleast for your holiday. unfortunatly with out a specific way to make boinc retry with in a few secconds this is the only way to get it to work. unless you change the "on demand" time out time.usualy boinc will try again in about 2 to 10 minutes. setting the on demand time out to about a half hour "might" work.

Thanks Paul,
But think the safest way is to down load several wu's and if it can't get on line at least the crunching will get done and hope it doesn't upset the other half of the quorum with any delay in delivery.

hmm depending on how long the holiday is, that could work. by setting your cache large enough. then when you get home, make sure you reset the cache to the original value. not exactly perfect. but itl do :)
your welcome, i wish you luck :)
