S4 had some 6+million wu. It took some 180 days to complete.
S5 has some 16+million (LOOOOONGER) wu. How on earth will it finish in just double the time WITHOUT optimized applications?

You need to take into account that whilst Akos' optimised S4 apps were around for a couple of months at the end of S4, it was only a minority of crunchers that were actually using them. The bulk of the S4 work was essentially done with an unoptimised app. The S5 app is already 3.5x faster than the stock S4 app with further possible performance gains to come. Yes, there is a lot more work in each task now but there are also a lot more computers doing the work. I don't find the prediction all that surprising and with certain rumour generating systems seeming to be in full swing, it would appear that the 362 days could actually turn out to be an overestimate.
I reckon it's all part of a cunning ploy to entice more crunchers into the fold with the prospect of exciting times ahead :).
Don't you just love a good conspiracy theory and how it can spice things up!! After all, it must be pretty hard to sell a lot more people on crunching for gravity waves just on the merits of the project alone :).

Conspiracy theory or just a lot of wishful thinking? :)
The conspiracy theory was only a joke, implying that I expect (very) soon an optimized app for S5, in order to finish the s5 in 362 days (or less).
One more thing, on P4 2.8 Ghz computer it used to take some 5 hours to complete a long s4 wu (without an optimized application) and it takes now some 13+ hours to complete a long s5 wu. It seems that the s5 long wu are much looooooooooooonger than the s4 ones.
By the way the official estimate for completion of s5 is now 367.7 days.

Gravity increases significantly in Autumn, because apples fall in large numbers during that time!

Just wait till I figure out how to start up my new AMD machine...

So, will we finish S5 to Christmas? :)

Nice idea. With some upgrades on the application...

LOL!!! 2007 Maybe! =)
Talking serios now... I think Akos have a rabbit on it´s hat hahahaha! Just waiting for the SSE3 app.

Why do I have this sneaking suspicion that you are about to launch something at us that would make this possible???
;) :).
Of course you wouldn't just get us all excited over nothing, would you???
;).
Cheers,
Gary.
