Anyone tried to run this on a G3? There are signs that this may not work at all...

Greetings,
I would, but after the finish of the remaining 4.56 WU i got this message:
##

the 4.67 files was already in place.
After removing the .xml it loads the S5 app and a WU (ca. 20+ h).
When I restored the app_info.xml I got the same no work message + this error:
##

and most of the S5 files where deleted.
Any chance for some more S4 work for betatesting the 4.67 app?
I see that the anonymous platform scheme we use for public Beta Test is badly prepared for the transition to S5R1 we're doing now.
With that transition I'd consider the Beta Test to be over - and successful. The Apps we will use for S5R1 are almost the same than the ones we had in public Beta Test, the improved science code is actually identical, thus the new Apps will be precisely as fast as the Beta Test Apps.
Thank you for all your help, this was incredibly useful!
However the Beta Test Apps are lacking some features we found we need for the new run, and thus can't be used for the new Workunits. There is a bit of S4 work left, but no guarantee that the scheduler will try to give it to your machine. So
- if you want to keep your machines busy regardless of the type of work processed, just remove the app_info.xml file (and restart the client). You will download the new App for the new work, and the old official App for the old S4 work.
- if you prefer to do the old S4 work while it is available and risk your machine runs dry, keep the app_info.xml until there's no more S4 work left (we'll add an entry for that on the server status page).
- if you want to live risky and enjoy it, try the following: remove the app_info.xml, but keep a copy of the Beta App executables somewhre outside the project directory. Restart the client. After getting S4 work and having downloaded the old official App, stop the client again and replace the executables of the official App with the backups of the Beta Test App. Then start the client again. There's no guarantee that this will fool all clients on all machines, but it should work most of the time and finish the S4 work with the speed of the Beta Apps.
I have been having some problems with my Quad and hopefully they are now sorted out.
During this time I was running the beta on only two cpu's when I noticed that the cpu usage was at times up to 110%.
I also had this appear in my logs
Mac OS X Version 10.4.6 (Build 8I127)
2006-06-16 22:30:16 +0100
Warning: unrecognized command line flag -psn_0_1310721
I looked it up in Searchlight and it came back as being in the client_state xml file. BOINC has hung up a couple of times and I have had to re-boot, perhaps this is the cause.
Due to my problems I unfortunatly lost some work units, and whilst I sympathise with your frustration I was not impressed by the impertinent message about your 'resentment' while I had to twice reinstall my os.
That said, your efforts to improve the performance on macs is appreciated.
Is there a time frame when 4.67 will be ready for testing with the S5 wu's?
Sorry I don't understand the question.
We are in transition to the new S5 run, so for a while both types of Workunits are in the database and available to the scheduler. Once you remove your app_info.xml file it should be possible for you to get S5R1 "work". With your first S5R1 Task you will download the MacOS PPC App, which is more or less identical to the 4.67(*). For now there will be no more public Beta Test for S5R1.
(*) The first S5R1 App 4.04 was identical to the 4.67 App. However we found it not to run on G3s, so we updated it to the current 4.05. The 4.05, however, seems to have problems on some older 10.3 installations, so I expect yet another update soon.

Unfortunately the risk did not pay off. Once the new app wwaas downloaded all S4-WUs became invalid.
