i think i just figured out why that didnt work the first time. same reason some others i tryd didnt work.. im running the apache webserver on my home pc. and after looking at the logs, it appears they see it as a proxy and there by deny access,, so in those cases id have to turn off apache in order to get in.... hmm.

I am running Apache on my system too, and I'm allowed on IRC. Sounds more like your Apache is misconfigured.
hmm, very well could be :) im not exactly a genious. i BARELY managed to get apache, php, mysql, php myadmin, and about 3 scripts running,,, and i do mean, BARELY. but! all referances to "proxy" in conf are #'d out. i.e.
when i try to log on to freenode,,, i do get in. but theres a few others that would show up as "timed out" but show up in the access log with proxy some where in the access request.. hmm, got me stumpd.

Does freenode actually require identd to be running to connect? It's strait off the road of good intentions. A totally useless protocal for it's designed purpose. Most networks that still have it enabled, and for some reason IRC's about the only place that does use it, will let you on after it times out.
