I sure you know what you precisely what you meant, and I trust you that it probably wasn't precisely what 'brown-shirts' actually means. But please, that type of expression is ever so easily misunderstood. In this instance it would be unreasonable to expect any reader to take it in any neutral light. In electronic communication, we ought not burden the listener too much!!

personally i would love to use a optimized client but due to the curse of 32 i have been forced to do other projects to keep my computer crunching. One of these i was having problems with the app exiting unexpectedly. The solution to this problem was found to be updating to the new off the shelf version of boinc. So until a new optimized client is created that won't cause this problem is made, sorry i will be claiming low credit.

I regret using that language; I certainly did not mean to make a specific national reference, but rather had an fantastic image from Orwell, or perhaps Kafka, in mind. This was prompted by comments I understood to mean “Follow our (unwritten) rules or be considered a pariah�, and the kind of double-think that clothes greed in a mantle of altruism.
However, I acknowledge that my remark was intemperate, insensitive, and quite out of proportion to the provocation; I hope anyone I've unnecessarily offended thereby will accept my sincere apologies.

Actually, I've been attempting to understand that, but I'm unfortunately French-challenged so can't tell much about it. Maybe you can help?
First, does it calibrate or does it optimize?
Also, I've become very fond of several features of the trux client (though it's apparently no longer in development) including the following:
(1) It allows me to set CPU affinity, and configure to run a different project on each CPU (or virtual CPU, in the case of HT). This helps performance in some cases, as some projects access memory differently - and in the case of HT, utilize the CPU differently.
(2) It allows me to adjust credit for particular projects (those where I'm using an optimized application), and leave the others alone.
(3) It deletes overdue work, so as not to waste time processing work units that won't be credited.
(4) It flags work units that are taking too long to complete (great for catching the occasionally 'bad' work unit).
Is there something similar to any/all of the above in the BoincStudio manager and client?
we had a long discussions about trux's development over boinc.cz/CNT board about his excellent BOINC core...in times of development.
CPU affinity has only been in trux client, AFAIK. He wanted to test it is his Xeons. I believe this might be this of use when we known that extensive usage of CPU part by akosf's optimalization can bring down Intel HT "miracle" to knees and actually slow-down whole CPU by -25% comparing to plain single core chip :-)
There are some other usefull features. For example, I conviced trux to add clear_debts that clear LTD values for all projects in client_state.xml (can be also done manually or using BoncDebtView).
I believe (2) and (3) are incorporated in BS.
Also, there is a calibration by ThierryH in BS.
Not sure about (4).
BS has for exmaple 'backup project' feature, which may be found usefull together with faking CPU numbers and "Curse of 32" on Einstein.
Calibration vs. Optimalization. I hope that other project will go FLOPs way and calibration and ill benchmarks will become obsolete and redundant - as they always been on CPDN and are mostly irrlevant on SETI. But BS can calibrate. For me, getting CPU features and instructions sets is more important than calibration/optimalization...this will be hopefully utilized for automatically choosing optimalized application in foreseable future.
To make long story short - BS is really worth a try.
One of the farmes is converting to BS from trux's core and BoincView...BS is close to substitute both :-)
