VIRGO

Quote:
Does (or will) Einstein@Home analyze data from the VIRGO project? I came across this article in the Wikipedia that says it does. It states under 'See also' that "Einstein@Home, for a program you can download which will help the VIRGO/GEO teams analyze their data!". If not, should it be 'LIGO/GEO'?

-edit- corrected the link

I would not be certain. As far as I know, VIRGO is managed by Italian former elementary particle physicists turned general relativity researchers and elementary particle physicists do not allow their precious and costly data to be processed by sundry and all.

There is a newsletter which

There is a newsletter which details VIRGO plans and also engineering problems. It also speaks of a possible Memorandum of Understanding between LIGO and VIRGO which is being drafted. The newsletter is in English and pdf format.

This is terrific news indeed!

Virgo is proud to announce that today we successfully completed our first Weekly Science Run (WSR1)...... progress of the commissioning of Virgo, which is now able to operate with a good duty cycle (90% of science mode during WSR1) and sensitivity similar to the LIGO detectors at high frequency.

and this is a terrific curve:

Thanks Tullio!
Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

Ditto!

And the sensitivity looks great! Can a ground-based IFO get any better than that?

Thanks you all. I will continue monitoring VIRGO results.
