Sorry guys. but I do not see any sense in spending Linux CPU cycles for this project. Windows is three times faster, but I am not willing to install this disease on my boxes. No Microsoft tax, not even for a nice project like this.

I am switching over to QMC with my linux machines and I will come back, when a client with a similar performance as on windows is available. I was waiting really long, 3 month is a long time and my frustration level is now high enough. I will also encourage all linux users of my team to follow me.

See you again, when Linux has optimizations too. Bye.

Many other E@H members, including myself, have enjoyed these speedups on our Linux machines by using wine. Should you have a change of heart, you are welcome back here anytime.

such things just should not be writ so please destroy this if you wish to live 'tis better in ignorance to dwell than to go screaming into the abyss worse than hell

Certainly many thanks to you for your assistance, your considerable contributions, and you're quite welcome back at any time! :-)
I too look forward to when optimisations also flow to non-Windows platforms.....

Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

Which means, that I need a Windows license, which means Microsoft taxes. No, thanks. Bill is rich enough.

Me too. (5 out of 6 boxes run linux)
Tomorrow it will be a month since akos released his client. That should have been enough time to build a new official release or at least a public beta test.

Bruce has. Until he can upgrade the servers though they won't be able to support the increased traffic from 4x the work.

Any of you who are or have

Any of you who are or have been considering being computer consultants may want to consider looking at one of the programs that MS makes available to its resellers and the like - the Microsoft Action Pack.

You can find details here: https://partner.microsoft.com/40016455

I know that it's available in a number of countries - and supremely less expensive than buying licenses retail or even at academic discounts.

Of course, if your philosophy allows for no MS software at all - well, that's an entirely different matter.

It is not a matter of philosophy, it is just a whole bulk of software which is running on the box. I do not want to spend Euros over Euros just to be able to switch from free software to whatever paysoft.

Currently windows boxes do a better job, so let them do the job. Time will come and Bruce will provide a faster Linux client, I have plenty of time to wait.

I have to concur with the man. I'll leave my windows machines to Einstein. By now, they do the work alone of all the machines I had dedicated before the akosf optimization appeared.

I, too, will be back in full gear when Linux has been shifted to an economical level once again.

Hello everybody. I am also

Hello everybody.

I am also running E@H on all my linux boxes. I stopped SETI@H and CPDN in order to run exclusively E@H because I wanted to help this project after Bruce called for 'more CPU power'. I resisted to run Akos' optimized client because I think I should wait for the official release. The second reason I did not run the optimized client is that I have not installed wine on my (LFS) distro.

I must admit that every two hours I look at the message boards in order to see for some (good) news about the new official client. But, no news :-(
Still, I do not want to give up and still let E@H run exclusively because I want the S4 run finish as soon as possible.

Bruce, do you have some news about the upgrade of the servers ? Do you maybe have a planning for the upgrades and the release of the new client ?

Bernard.
