You can set your preferences, in "General Preferences, Processor Usage - On multiprocessors, use at most" to 1 processor. An HT machine is treated as having 2 processors.
Of course, this doesn't work if you have other HT or dual machines where you DO want to use both. Then you would have to use up another "venue", like Work or School.

All BOnic is doing is using unused CPU cycles ... If you system needs them ... then BOnic will release them back to the system ...
If you are using a laptop you should be concerned about overheating. A laptop running at 100% will get hot and the fan will run constantly. Some models of Dell (Inspiron 5100) have documented overheating problems.
I am running einstein@home on my Dell Laptop. I have dowloaded one of the addons that allow you to throttle down the CPU usage. The registry entry part of the addon was originally written for seti@home so you will need to edit that to reflect this program.
I have had no problems with einstein@home using this addon. I have my CPU usage throttled down to about 30%. My friend is using the same thing and is running his at 40%. My fan never comes on with normal usage and he says that his occassionally kicks on.
The addon is available from the download section of this website.
Where the name of the program is found by looking in the task manager and the "30" represents the number of cycles I want to allocated. This usually takes about 30 seconds after starting up to go from 100% down to 30%.
I have a Dell Inspiron 8300 running Einstein. Actually, it has crunched all projects at one time or another. The main concern you should have is keeping your laptop cool. Use a cooling station or grill rack so that air can circulated underneath the unit. Also a clean heat pipe is essential as well. If I didn't do the above the thing would burn up in no time. I have had one MB turn to toast and had it replaced under warranty. Also had to replace a HD on the laptop because of CPDN's constant I/O with their application.
I'm running this on an Apple PowerBook G4 1.25GHz with internet apps running and Finder quit on my belly. The Hardware Monitor menu says the processor on full hangs around 335±2 K. How am I doing?
I have a COMPAQ Presario 915 I bought 2 years ago and I have ran the Classic Seti for a few months and now running Bonic 24/7 for the last 2 weeks. I am glad I read this thread because I never thought of leaving room under it for air flow. I bet it will run cooler now I have put it on old Pepsi bottle caps. I will have to figure out how to get to the fan and CPU heat sink to clean it off.

There has been a thread about this: Limit CPU usage. You might want to take a look, the status is still unchanged.

I edited the seti.reg file to read:

"mfadmin.exe"="5"
