I recently switched over to using the iMac G5 iSight PPC, I encountered
this problem :

Not quite sure what is happening with the get_local_network_info.
I don't know if it's the way I have installed Boinc or a problem with
my G5 configuration. This keeps showing up, I have tried the Unix
commandline client, as well as Boinc Manager....any help, suggests.
advice is greatly appreciated.

Looks pretty odd, i.e. if the machine cannot properly resolve "localhost", or its own name. Looks like a misconfigured DNS server or broken /etc/hosts file. Do you get a message (a few lines below) which name it failed to resolve? Which OS version are you running?

Yeah, tis. I've noticed that occasionally on my machine ( Win XP Pro ) I've had to explicitly specify the host. Do this in BOINC via menu 'file'->'Select computer'->'Host name' ( a dropdown list should have your computer's name that you can select ). For me, this has only been needed if I've had an unexpected power outage and reboot ( all too frequent for me, due to the vicarious conditions half way up a mountain range ). This suggests that BOINC can 'forget' it's settings in such a circumstance - file corruption or somesuch I'd supposed.

Guys thanks for the help, Mike I apologize if I seemed difficult, of course that apology
goes out to the whole community. I think I resolved the the localhost problem
by editing my etc/hosts file, am using an iMac G5 iSight PPC, Tiger 10.4.5
for the most part I like to run the unix command line client.

Well, just in case anyone is interested, or may be experiencing
the same problem, I just edited my etc/hosts file and added
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost xxxxxxx.local
x= hostname.
I then re-attached to boinc e@h and got the following:

So far everything seems ok....
Sorry for the redundancy, hope this may help someone.
Now I'm trying to get Boinc Stat View to show host total and avg.
No help file for that program. As far as I can remember, a few months
back it showed host info but now nada...

(edit ) I've just downloaded and examined the zipfile for BOINC Stat Viewer, there's a readme file which indicates an email address for it's author Aleksander Szablewski - . You could give him a call perhaps?
