Fresh Download and install on all puters, again the common program is Mcaffe and it reconizes the program. Even when the screen saver comes up for the first time.

Timmy

what do you call completely removed BOINC?

uninstalling and deleting the files by hand is not enough

there will be many "remnants" lurking.

I will address the entries in the registery made by the different boinc clients and gui.

Some of the components have been registered in the past and might now not fit anymore.

Some entries can be removed by hand from the registery but bee really carefull, it's not the usual way...and risky

A while ago, had an installation problem with an older ALPHA release, could not uninstall it propper. Had to take the hard way over the registery, but finaly it could be solved.

When you say, the boincmanager is "blank", what is the statusbar (lower end) of the boincmanager showing? "disabled." or connecting.. or connected to local host or "error.."?

the same here.

Finaly upgraded a 4.19 windows2000 256 MB AMD2500 to 4.20

made backup and uninstalled the 4.19
created NT usergroup "users"

(Running a German language, there is no group called "group", here it's called "Benutzer")

This time installed as "every user" not as single user

then installed the 4.20, killed the language dir (I want english..)
and the client is working without loss of work.
Exceptionally restarted the client.

Crossing as usual all fingers, but the client is running fine.
And yes the "show grafic" is working fine also.

The client now under 4.20, shows the same theoretical daily rating as under 4.19, so it progresses at the "same speed".

You must have an other fish Timmy

I hadn't rebooted until you said you had trouble, so I tried it. How many users do you have on those 5? willing to try "Single User"?

The only problem somewhat

The only problem somewhat similar (not exactly) that I had seen was back on 4.62 where upon it running the CPU benchmark, it wouldn't display the results in the messages tab and also connecting to projects, the messages wouldn't display. However the other tabs didn't have a similar problem and the progress on the WUs displayed, as well as the credits and all on the projects tab, and the info on the disk space tab. Stopping the client (though I didn't have to do it from task manager, but could just right click on the tray icon and exit fixed it.

4.66 didn't seem to have even that problem. I've got a moment, so I'll try loading 4.20. I think I'm running it as single user now... If I notice a problem, I'll add indication of the results.

BTW, just uninstalled 4.66,

BTW, just uninstalled 4.66, then reinstalled 4.20. Didn't bother to reboot in any of this though. Put it in as single user instillation, it launched. Everything in BOINC Manager displayed properly, including the messages for the CPU bench and what not. All went well here.

BTW, if it might be a possible difference, logged on as Administrator here in winXP Pro Service Pack 2.
